For now we see but a faint reflection of riddles and mysteries as though reflected in a mirror, but one day we will see face-to-face. My understanding is incomplete now, but one day I will understand everything, just as everything about me has been fully understood.
1 Corinthians 13:12
Life is big, and being alive consists of much more than just breathing and eating. Finding and having a relationship with God is the crucial element in Life and being alive. C. S. Lewis once wrote, “God is the fuel that the human machine was designed to run on.”
The Life being offered to us in and through the Bible must be the life we most desperately want and need—and it is big. From Genesis through Revelation, God reveals all its dimensions. To comprehend it fully is impossible for you and me at this time. We are, however, given glimpses again and again, tiny tastes like grocery store samples, of the goodness in store for us at end of our journey.
This Life is so big that all we can really do is dig our fingers in and hold tight to the real estate right in front of us. We can only experience one step at a time, but we can look ahead and know there is much more to come. As we hold tight to each piece of this new Life, we are invited to look around, process, ponder and enjoy it. This is part of the training. Then, when the experience is over, we are called to move on, to grasp yet another part of this new Life in the Larger Story and continue our education by God.
