The process of our search and rescue begins at the heart and in the heart. God targets our hearts. When a person places faith and trust in Christ as his or her Savior, things change. Everything changes. A missing person has been found. When a missing person is found, things change. When God finds us, we are changed at the deepest level—in our hearts. It is at that moment, when we believe, that we are not only found, but transformed. Made over. Our old nature is replaced with a new one. We are no longer a slave but a son or daughter.
Trust and faith in Christ, wrapping our arms around His neck and letting Him whisk us to safety, is far more than getting us out of harm’s way. It is a rescue of heart, a transformation of identity and an equipping for victory through the authority of the One to whom we have now given our allegiance. Anything less would be a partial saving, “mostly” rescued, “for the most part” set free. Paul puts it this way in 2 Corinthians 5:17, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! (Chapter 9)
