The Scriptures tell us that in Christ, through Christ, and by Christ we are free. Free. “In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence” (Ephesians 3:12). The legislation has been passed in heaven. Yet freedom is far from practiced or enforced.
In this fallen and hostile world, freedom is more than threatened; it is accosted. Freedom is something we have, but freedom is also something we must fight for. You have to own something before you can protect it.
Freedom is the objective of the Christ follower, the kingdom man. Freedom is what good kings enjoy, offer, and defend. And freedom is the reason Jesus came. Quoting the prophet Isaiah, Jesus described his mission:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.” (Luke 4:18)
Jesus paid a great price to fulfill that prophecy and obtain our freedom. Life with God is to be lived free.
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)
