When you were born, you were born into a story that had been unfolding for decades. Your mom and your dad are both a story. Each of your grandparents is a story, and their stories came together to make new chapters and set new courses. And through the generations, you and I were finally written in. The way our hearts were handled by those we were given to has shaped not only our own stories but many others as well, far more than many of us will ever know this side of heaven.
Whether you were planned by your earthly parents, or were a pleasant surprise, or were something of an inconvenience, you were and have always been known, planned, and wanted by God. It’s amazing how often the Bible speaks to our value and worth before we were even born. Take, as a sampler, these four passages from the Amplified Bible:
You formed my innermost parts;
You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks and praise to You,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
(Psalm 139:12–14)
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, her baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and empowered by Him. (Luke 1:41)
At the end of eight days, when He was to be circumcised, He was named Jesus, the name given [to Him] by the angel [Gabriel] before He was conceived in the womb. (Luke 2:21)
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you [and approved of you as My chosen instrument], And before you were born I consecrated you [to Myself as My own]; I have appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
