It’s never a weak thing to be kind or gentle. In fact, these are two of the most powerful fruits of the spirit. It’s a gentle word that turns away wrath (Proverbs 15:1), and it’s kindness that has the ability to allow for the flow of love. As the sun can melt ice, so kindness melts away the hard things of the heart. Therefore, we must learn to be kind, gentle, and compassionate toward our own heart if we are ever going to learn to be kind, gentle, and compassionate toward others. I have to remind myself from time to time:
I’ve never been here before.
I am an unfinished man.
Very few get it right the first time.
Father me, Father.
