God loves to hide things. Not so we won’t find them, but because of the joy we will experience in the search and discovery.
When our children were younger, we would hide plastic Easter eggs filled with jelly beans around the house. My wife, Leigh, and I had a blast deciding where to hide the eggs so that it would take some effort to find them but also so they could be found. Our greater joy was watching our kids discover the Easter eggs with shouts of “I found one!”
One of the thrilling joys in life, at any age, is to discover something that you’ve been searching for—from discovering what’s preventing you from balancing your checking account to finally finding something that you’re good at and enjoy. These revelations usually come in part by something inherent in our nature: to be curious. We certainly were curious when we were younger. For many of us, our curiosity was pushed aside by practicality and busyness, making mystery an annoyance rather than an adventure. Much of our lives is designed to be navigated by curiosity.
