God’s intimate affection is for me and you. I heard Zephaniah 3:17 in a totally new way, “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
Did you know the Hebrew word for rejoice means to spin around under violent emotion? The phrase “rejoice over you” literally means to dance, skip, leap and spin in joy. So the latter part of this verse is more accurately translated, he will dance over you with singing! I love the picture that comes to my mind thinking of God as this mighty warrior dancing over me with shouts of joy. How great is that? I love that. I want that. I want to picture him that way.
This is belovedness, and it is more amazing when you know the one who’s loving you. It is foundational, where it all begins. We can’t move forward until we understand our belovedness.
Love is the point. So that is why I’m here, because I encountered a love like no other, and it changed me forever, and I want more. And I want that for each one of us.
