I was praying about this Elder Sage initiative to know if I should participate and if I should start working with a young man locally. I feel like I’ve been in training for the last couple of years just waiting to be released back into ministry. While this initiative does make my heart excited, I do not feel remotely qualified. I want to make sure that this is what God wants before I jump in.
I was out for a run and open to God when a pair of Marine Corps jets flew over in tight formation. That hasn’t happened in the year I’ve lived here. I’m a former navy pilot that loved flying in formation. God spoke to me and showed me how beautiful it is when two men work together closely. It makes them better than they could ever be alone. They learn to work as one and can do so much more than is possible individually. One man leads the way and the other follows closely. In a way it is discipleship. Then a large flock of geese flew over. Geese can fly longer when they fly in formation and drafting off each other. They switch leaders so the leader can drop back and rest a bit. God showed me that larger mens groups can end up flying higher, faster and longer when working together the way God intended. Then I very clearly heard “you are released.” It was incredibly powerful.
