My Journey with God

The King Me conference was the culmination of, and perfect set up, for a long term theme that had come to the surface in the last months before the conference. It is the "I don't feel like a man among men" place. Arriving at the conference full of men triggered some of these feelings. I was assigned a small group with some men who were very different from me. Through the exercises and our discussions, our differences were brought up, but instead of making those differences emphasize separation, they became places of appreciation for our uniqueness as men. With meeting with the men that weekend and the Lord speaking through them, I came into a deeper place of self-acceptance, affirmation, and validation. Since that weekend I have been experiencing much settledness of heart around my identity, call, and rightful place among men.

My 3 Favorite Movies and Why

"Lawrence of Arabia" - the quintessential "poet/warrior" story. Full of adventure, pulled at my masculine heart strings to take risk and lead when need to.

"Raiders of the Lost Art"  or any Raider movie. - Great adventure and danger, with some mix of rescuing the beauty. Good over evil.

"A River Runs Through It" - Father and son relationships, the father wound. Story set in fly fishing rivers in Montana.

My 3 Favorite Books and Why

My Side of the Mountain - The story of a boy who sought his family roots which led him back to live on the land of his ancestors. An adventure and survival story as well as self-discovery. Sealed my love for nature and being closely connected to the land.

Too many Christian books to name, but will go with "The Cure" for now because I have recommended it to people more than any book, or given it away more so far. Gets to the heart of the gospel in creative story and has changed men's lives.

My 3 Favorite Places and Why

Scotland - Sense spiritual root there. Feel "at home" when there. I have deep ancestral roots there. Drawn there and love the land and culture.

New York City - God has spoken to me there more than any place. Even more than any special place in nature. So ironic since with my love for nature and where we typically think are places God speaks, but God has shown He can speak to anyone, anywhere, and at any time. Place of growth in my life and hearing the voice of God that resulted in major life changes.

The Grand Tetons - WOW, blows me away every time I see their reflection in Lake Jackson. The best of the American West for me and where I experience the awe of God's creation.
