My Journey with God
One of the coolest experiences/realizations in the last 12 months has been the way I have realized how God prepared the way for me as we moved to NC. After 40 years living un Buffalo, NY - I had no idea how God would provide for me in terms of relationships and ministry. It has been an incredible experience to see Him lead me into relationships and ministry ... especially with the Zoweh crew. I thought my experiences and relationships in Buffalo would never be replaced - but I have found MORE here in NC.
My 3 Favorite Movies and Why
- Gladiator: "Soon, but not yet." Having lost a son (many years ago), I was encouraged and inspired by the scene of Maximus being reunited with his son who had preceded him in death.
- Kingdom of Heaven: I love the story of a father who seeks out and redeems/restores his son to his glory. Balian has no idea who he is or what his potential is, until he is found and trained by his father.
- Matrix: I love the scene where Neo both understands and activates his identity. He becomes more of himself when he acknowledges that he can become the man he was made to be.
My 3 Favorite Books and Why
- "Ragamuffin Gospel" (Manning): This is the book God used to help me understand grace for the first time. God turned my heart towards Himself through Manning's writing.
- "The Prodigal God" (Keller): The best (ever) explanation and illumination of the famous story of a man and his two sons. Genius and engaging.
- "The Cure" (Lynch): A great allegory and encouragement (aimed at those who try to please God through our behavior) rather than depending on the redeeming work He completed in His Son.
My 3 Favorite Places and Why
- Saranac Village. A Young Life camp in upstate NY. This is the place where God first taught me that I could serve Him and HIs kingdom through a full expression of the gifts and talents He equipped me with. I just had to be who He made me to be in the context He provided. (plus, it's one of the best water sports lakes on the planet)
- Pesaro, Italy. My favorite place in my favorite country. Sits like a jewel on the Adriatic coast of Italy. Great People, great scenery, great food, great living.
- Sequoia National Park: God lives there.
